American Airlines will not offer connecting flights from State College to Charlotte

American Airlines has decided not to offer regular connecting flights from University Park to Charlotte.
In 2021, Centre County, along with other local municipalities, assembled an incentive package aimed at encouraging the airline to establish a connection to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, proposing a minimum of 12 flights weekly.
However, challenges like pilot shortages and fluctuating demand were cited by American Airlines for their decision.
Despite committing nearly $300,000 from various funds towards the initiative, the county is now refunding these contributions.
The goal behind this expansion was not just for tourism, but also to attract entrepreneurial ventures.
Though University Park airport launched a temporary nonstop flight to Charlotte in the past, its long-term status remains uncertain.
The final decision on that service should be confirmed by year's end.

🚧 In roughly four weeks construction will begin on the retaining walls surrounding the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte. It is anticipated to disrupt traffic in the area for nearly a year. The $2.14 million project to fix the over century old retaining walls will be done in two phases. Phase I will start in the next few weeks into April 2024 and will result in the closing of the north side of East High Street. Phase II is expected to last from April into September 2024 and will see the south side of East High Street closed for the duration of the phase. Expect to see detour signs being erected in the next few weeks. The impact on courthouse operations remains unclear, though relocation of certain operations is under consideration.
